Description: First commercial application of HGRS prototype system developed at AT&T Microelectronics beta site. Highly adaptable but crude ergonomics. Featured two HGRS tungsten-alloy high-temperature jets on arms, plus lower temperature jet in base for through hole and special applications.
Identify By: Single column cabinet support, extended height modular cabinet witih removable subcabinets, hydraulic locking jet positioners with XYZ block adjusters.
Variant: One early prototype was sold in 1987 after testing, recorded as HGRS-1, HGRS-II deliveries began in 1988.
Problem Areas: Hydraulic leaks, difficulty returning jets to desired position. An HGRS-II Application Note provides recommended setup instructions for the hydraulic arms' XYZ adjustment blocks. Temperature control stability breaks down over time.
Status: Obsolete, critical components in temperature control system are no longer commercially available.
Support: Some replacement parts are available, and currrent HGRS heater elements can be retrofit.
Overhaul Cost: Not available, but conversion to digital controls and modern jet positioners is feasible.
