DL-2, DL-3 de-lidder™ ("Split Table" 1987-1991)

Previous
DL-3 1991

Descriptionfirst production models, also sold in Europe as DL-90 and "Hymill". All these machines have fixed-height cutter spindles and adjustable height worktables. Originals had small, machined vacuum trays,  short headstocks, 1/8HP cutter motors with front-facing pulleys, and brass wiper nuts on V-thread leadscrews. By end of production (as shown below); full-width sheet metal vacuum tray right side covered 4000RPM SEM cutter motor with back-mounted pulley belted to longer headstock. Late machines and some overhauled earlier ones have replaceable worksurface inserts. Round rail systems were supported by end blocks.

Identify By: Rotary Pot Controls, Split Work Table (table-mounted depth of cut indicator, locking screws on table top, right side tool access hole)

Problem Areas: Table planarity is very difficult to maintain as height is changed, especially as bearing surfaces wear over time.  This creates depth of cut variations from one end of the package to another, with steps in between cuts. Reseal is highly unlikely unless the entire package wall is sanded down, defeating the purpose of the de-lidder™ system. Leadscrew wear likely to create vibration and machined surface irregularilties, but these are less critical since full sanding is almost certainly required for any hope of reseal.

Status: ObsoleteWear makes inadequate to accomplish reseal and overhaul is not economically feasible due to design limitations. DL-2 operators should confirm Wiring Mod "B"  has been performed before further use.

Support: Parts availability is largely limited to existing stock, plus normal de-lidder™ consumables: SB-8 cutting tools, holddown screws and delrin feet. We can machine new table inserts and datum stops for DL-3s.

Overhaul Cost:  Not available.
